Job Description

The Maritime Sustainability Coordinator will lead and implement sustainability initiatives within the maritime sector, focusing on reducing environmental impact and achieving certifications through Gold Standard and Verra verification processes. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on project management to ensure compliance, drive carbon credit projects, and enhance operational sustainability. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in carbon accounting, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Sustainability Strategy & Implementation:

  • Align initiatives with IMO GHG strategy, MARPOL Annex VI, and corporate ESG goals.
  • Gold Standard & Verra Verification Management.
  • Lead end-to-end verification processes, including Project Design Documents (PDDs), monitoring reports, and audits.
  • Coordinate with third-party auditors and maintain records for carbon credit
  • issuance/retirement.

   

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and standards (e.g., EU MRV, SEEMP).
  • Prepare reports using frameworks like GRI or SASB and track KPIs for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Project Development & Collaboration.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and external bodies (NGOs, port authorities) to integrate sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Degree in environmental science, Marine Biology, or related field. (Masters prefered)
  • 3–5 years in sustainability roles, maritime sector experience a plus.
  • Proven track record with Gold Standard, Verra VCS, or similar frameworks.
  • Gold Standard for the Global Goals, Verra VCS, or GHG Protocol training preferred.
  • Proficiency in carbon accounting, lifecycle assessments, and data tools (e.g., Excel, GIS).
  • Knowledge of maritime technologies .
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
  • Experience with CDM, CCB, or voluntary carbon markets.
  • Network within maritime or sustainability sectors.
